On 12th September, 1898, three days after Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia’s death, his Will was opened, on the application of his nearest male relation Sardar Gajendra Singh Majithia, and in the presence of Lala Harkishen Lal and Mr. Joginder Chandra Bose, by Mr. B. H. Bird, Acting Registrar of the District. The will assigned some of the property to Sardar Gajinder Singh, made certain arrangements for the decent maintenance of Rani Bhagwan Kaur, the second wife of the Sardar, and created three Trusts with specific Committees of Trustees and specific properties for the creation and maintenance of a first class Arts College and a Public Library and for the maintenance of the Tribune Press and Newspaper. The largest and the most valuable portion of the property was assigned for the College, the establishment of which on new lines of instruction had always been the dream of the Sardar.
The clauses concerning the creation of the College ran as follows:
“The last will and testament of the Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, son of the late Sardar Lehna Singh Majithia, Reis, Jagirdar and landlord, and house proprietor, of Lahore, provides as follows: (viii) That all the property immovable and movable mentioned herein below shall vest permanently in a Committee of Trustees for the purpose of College at Lahore, that is to say:
(a) All proprietary rights including accessory and other rights and lands, gardens and houses in the following villages in the District of Amritsar, viz:
- Dyalpore
- Burg (Nawabad)
- Ruk Bhangwan
- Putli
- Bhalapind
(b) All my proprietary rights including accessory and other rights and lands, houses and gardens in the village of Mirzajan in the District of Gurdaspur.
(c) All my houses and lands in Lahore and its suburbs, excepting the house called the “Exchange” now occupied by Messrs E. Gillon and Co. Ltd.
(d) My house property in the city of Karachi, Sind.
(e) Any other land and houses that may hereafter be acquired by me in Lahore, Karachi or any other place.
(f) The eighty shares belonging to me and standing in my name in the Delhi Cotton Mills Company Ltd, and the forty shares belonging to me and standing in my name in the Krishna Mills Company Ltd., Delhi.
(g) All my shares in the Punjab National Bank, Lahore.
(h) All current and fixed deposits to my credit in the Alliance Bank of Simla, Lahore, in the Agra Bank, Lahore, in the Bank of Bengal at Lahore and Calcutta, and with Messrs Latham and Co. of Karachi.
(i) All sums of money due to me on promissory notes, bonds, hundis or cheques.
(j) Two gold necklaces set with pearls, rubies and diamonds now in the custody of my cashier Bhanga Singh at Amritsar.
(k) Furniture, books and book-shelves at my residential house at Lahore and books and book-shelves at my residential house at Amritsar.
That the said Committee of Trustees shall consist of the following members, viz.

- Dewan Narendra Nath, M.A., District Magistrate, Montgomery.

- Mr. Harkrishen Lal, B.A., Barrister-at-Law, Lahore.
- Lala Ruchi Ram, M.A., Assistant Professor, Government College, Lahore.
- Mr. Golak Nath Chatterji, B.A., Assistant Professor, Govt. College. Lahore.
- Lala Sunder Das Suri, M.A. Asstt. Superintendent, Training College, Lahore.
- Babu Abinas Chandra Mazumdar of the North Western Railway Office, Lahore.
On 3rd May, 1910 Dyal Singh College, Lahore was opened. Dewan Anand Kumar re-established Dyal Singh College and Dyal Singh Library in Karnal, Haryana on September 09, 1949, which were founded on the excellent vision and will of Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia.

Dyal Singh College, Karnal enjoys the prestige of being one of the oldest higher education institutes in independent India. Continuing the legacy of Dyal Singh College, Lahore, established by the great academician, entrepreneur, visionary, and philanthropist, Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, it was established in Karnal in 1949 by the great academic enthusiast, Dewan Anand Kumar Ji. Since its inception, the college has proceeded to attain high and higher destinations both in academic and co-curricular activities. Its dynamism, which is the result of the esteemed members of its managing committee, has enabled the college to keep up with the latest requirements in the academic sphere.
